Project outline

Kelly & Knight were approached to design the rain water and snow simulation equipment for this new state- of- the- art research facility. The research facility consists of two large environmental chambers which are designed to control and simulate external weather conditions so that construction materials (and appliances) can be tested under differing climatic conditions and wind velocities. There are several options for property types which may be constructed within the test facility ranging from apartment buildings to semi and detached houses. The chambers are climatically controlled, and temperatures can range from -20°C to +40°C.

Project outcomes

This project involved the installation of new water and boosted services from third floor level (+10.2 metres minimum) to ground floor level so that specialist rain and snow making equipment can be connected in each chamber by the end user. In addition, the design also included the design and selection of a process chilled water machine to produce snow.
