Reducing the external noise entering the performance area of a Victorian Arts Facility.

Peel Building

Project outline
Following complaints regarding ‘low grade’ building services noise entering the performance area of this Victorian facility, Kelly & Knight were appointed to review the existing building services systems. The ventilation system which served the theatre was redesigned and replaced for new complete with noise and vibration reduction measures.
Project outcomes
The ventilation system which served the theatre was redesigned and replaced for new complete with noise and vibration reduction measures.
After liaison with the local planning department, agreement was granted to replace the building’s large internal fan dilution system for an alternative natural draught chimney. The removal of the system was a further measure to prevent noise and vibration from entering the performance space via the building’s structure. The chimney was installed within a position that would not be directly visible from the building’s main entrance or affect the Grade II listing of the building.
